N00b Here. Up For A Challenge !

Post by JJMPSP »

Hi :)

I recently got a portable dvd player thats broken from my dad, i took the lcd screen out of it and had a look on line to see if i could do anything with it.
I found i few useful mods, but none of them really impressed me.
I then started googling to see if it was possible to put it into one of my xbox 360 cases. (I have 11 consoles, i repair them)
I came across this site after just under an hour of googling and searching.
I was VERY Impressed by some of the mods in this forum , i would love to build some of the things i seen on this forum.

Right, as you can see this is my dvd player lcd screen.
where my finger is there is a ribbon, and there is another wire thats pink and white which connects to the dvd players motherboard.

I am no genius, and I am here to learn as i have hardly no clue about wiring works and how to keep a decent voltage. I have just turned 16, so this is a good age to start learning electronics and stuff i reckon.
Can some of you people point me in the right direction to get this hooked up to my 360 inside the case please ?
I really want to learn, and i heard this forum is very good for lcd mods.

Thanks guys if you do help :)

Hi, welcome to the forum. If you repair xboxes, then that's a good start. I assume you know how to solder and at least basic circuitry, which is really all you need.

But anyway, that pink and white wire? That's the backlight of the screen. The ribbon is for the screen itself, obviously.

It would be good to know what model the screen is, maybe some datasheets, but more important, did the dvd-player take composite or some other form of video input? If so, you're pretty much guaranteed that you can use it in a project like this. Look for spots that say something like "composite" "comp" "s-vid" "video" or something like that

Thanks for the welcome and the reply :)

the board does have a jack that converts to av inputs, so yes it is possible.
But, the board is very hard to fit into the xbox 360s case. So i was wondering if there was any other way i could get the LCD screen's ribbon to connect to one of my xbox 360s.

and i found this manual online. doesnt make much sense to me. But it might to you.
fancy helping me a bit more ? :P

Thanks :)

chances are, you will need some kind of controller board. Pretty damn sure you will need one actually, so you can pretty much forget that. You might get away with losing the bigger board, though. Maybe.
