What is this resistor?

Post by JariV »

So, I need a 10ohm resistor, and now I got one that read: Brown, Black, Gold, Gold.
Somewhere I read that 10ohm is brown, black, gold. Is mine 10ohm, despites that it has gold two times?

The 4th line is the tolerance rate. Gold is a 5% resistor and Silver is a 10% resistor.

A 10 ohm resistor is Brown, Black, Black though. Yours is a 1 ohm resistor.

that would be black brown black, though. It should definitely have 3 rings + gold/silver

huh?

Brown , black , black is 10 ohms.

Black Brown Gold is an older resistor that doesn't have the 4th band. It is a 20% 1 ohm resistor

Or maybe I drank to much. LOL

Nah, you're probably right. I've never seen resistors not having a third value band is all

Ok, and I got a brown, black, red, gold one. This should be 10.2 ohms. Can I use it for the LED mod (PSOne screen).

the third ring is not the number after the decimal point, it's the amount of zeros after the first two digits, so that would be 1000 aka 1k ohm

10 ohms is way too little resistance. You need 20-30 ohms for the LED mod. I think it affects the life of the LEDs.

But Ben's book says 10ohm. I found a 10ohm btw, and also a 35. Wich one should I use? :p

Epic win, I found 2 27 Ohm resistors. So I should do as Ben's book sais, but with 27 Ohm and 4 LEDs?

as long as the light reachs the difussing plasic i think you can put in it any direction. i put mine horizontally though

basically, you will want to use a resistor for each led, instead of one for all four. Also, the resistance depends entirely on how much amps your led draws and at what voltage it runs

Argh, well, here are the specs of my LEDs:
3.2v
20mA
15000mcd

But I also got the same ones but then 2600mcd.

So do I really need 4 resistors? Why does Ben do it with only one 10ohm then?
