ModRetro?

Post by Kyo »

Right, sorry if this is kind of ill-informed but that's kind of the point. Basically a few days ago I stumbled accross modretro because they were using a bunch of images from my site in their wiki, and then I coincidentally found this post about them apparently cheating in some sort of contest to claim prizes which a bunch of members apparently participated in, and one was really crap, but won?

It's all kind of spotty, could someone please give me a quick sum up of what's going on? Why does the site exist? It is literally almost identical to this forum.

This thread is the answer someone else got when they asked.

There are reasons it exists, but I don't know of any that make the portablizing/modding community better. But that's just my opinion.

Thanks, I'm going to read that then. Apparently it has something to do with bacteria?

Wait, the ModRetro wiki is using hotlinked pics from your site? Mind PM'ing me the pages that do? Whoever put those pics up, it is never cool to use pics without credit, much less hotlink and waste their bandwidth. I will make sure to fix it.

And yeah, read that thread. Bacteria was one of our main problems, but he left, so we are all cool now. :P

(note: I own ModRetro)

Not hotlinked, just copied. I would have preferred to actually be asked for permission, but it's ok. I don't mind the wiki using them, they're linking to my site on the pages using the images, so all is well.

Yeah, I read the thread. It's a bit vague in terms of explaining what bacteria did, but I can't say I'm surprised by this. I don't know if anyone remembered and I only vaguely remember that he started some kind of stupid accusations about me stealing his work and taking full credits after I started making the screen tutorial I never finished. Incidentally, he banned me from his modded by bacteria forum for saying he was wrong (he said you couldn't use analog sticks as a dpad when someone asked. and then again after I corrected him, in a different thread)

but of course the reason of this thread is not to talk about bacteria behind his back. May I just ask what exactly he did to start such a big forum war and drama? Seems quite weird for members of this forum to fight against each other, we always got along well, from what i've seen.

Ok, thanks. Our wiki is actually pretty dead till we get our knowledgebase PHPBB mod working properly.

He did a lot of stuff, he had a big huge drama with the mods here, accusing them of running a hate ring against him. Then on ModRetro, which originally he was supposed to own, he started out fine, but then became convinced that ShockSlayer (Who is an admin on Modretro) was going ban and delete the other admins on MR so that he could run the site himself. I told Bacteria that was not going to happen, but he insisted that me and him be the only people in charge, and threatened to leave if I did not ban ShockSlayer from MR. I refused, and he said he had decided he was leaving the internet, and would go quietly. His last action on ModRetro was to abuse the admin mass PM function to PM everyone about how evil me and ShockSlayer and a few other mods are, and how ModRetro would fall within two months.

lol...

Well, I've contributed to the wiki slightly. I've always kind of wanted to open one anyway, but I decided to settle for a site with categories & articles, for the sake for being more organized and accessible. I might work on my site some more if I get around to it, but feel free to use it as source for information/pictures as long as you keep linking to the original articles. I'm quite pleased people seem to use it quite a lot as a source for information now, because I kinda felt like no one was using it when I first made and populated it. I guess I'll check out modretro, I've made an account the other day.

Yeah, I have seen at least a few threads link to your joystick modding article, it is a good one.

ModRetro started out under the pretense of "Better than BenHeck with not evil nazi Bac hating zombie mods", but now that he has left, we figured out that because BH's mods are just fine, we are really just a cross of a small town, BenHeck forums, and 4chan. ;)

Ah yeah, that's something that was often requested, but the only tutorial was in ben's book, and it wasn't really that comprehensive. The thing with my site is that I made it before benheck.com had a reference section. It was made for two main purposes: 1. Having all the information more accessable and 2. Stop pictures in tutorials from going down. I guess it still serves one of those purposes.

The whole thing just seems kind of silly, I mean he is a grown, married man.

Man, be happy you missed it. For a while there, every time bacteria or modretro was mentioned in a thread, it went on and on with much flaming and trolling.
It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.

I've looked at it, but I can't really get myself to post anything right now. I have nothing to say. I'll be lurking though.

Yay, intelligent lurkers! Image

A lot of people like myself occasionally cross the e-river to post on the other site, to the best of my knowledge MR and BH are cool with each other.

Like what that one guy said: "Sure, some people are still holding grudges against each other, but eventually they will realize that it's the internet."

Yeah, you're lucky to have missed it. :P And, it's a kinda mutual agreement between the site's that this is all bacteria's fault. He's still up to his shenanigans still, going as far as giving DNT our cPanel login and password to cause harm, which he couldn't do because he was too retarded, so DNT tricked klaymator into doing it for him. Then klay turned on DNT and gave us back our site. All in all bacteria is copulate insane for taking this this far. It seems he's turned his attention away from BH though, although I can't predict an insane old man with an e-grudge. So yeah.

Also, bicostp is awesome.

Actually ShockSlayer, I asked Klay to do it to cover my tracks, I told him what to delete and upload, it was guilt that made him run to you.
Plus, it wasn't a Cpanel login it was direct FTP access.
Also Just between us though, it would have made more sense had modretro kept local backups.
