If you're looking for a 3.5" screen, hailrazer made this great guide comparing the most popular ones on ebay.

There are a couple connections just under the expansion slot that he cut though that needed to be reconnected. I had to do the same thing with mine. Bentendo's board is as small as you can get it. I got mine down to exactly what he has. You can remove the cartridge slot, but you'll have to solder directly to the chips. You will probably go insane.

a part! finally! i just got a 3rd pary controller, its not much , but its a start. i will soon be buying other parts, hopefully.

new parts to get: http://www.national.com/pf/LM/LM2621.html#Overview" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
if i get these, i can dramatically reduce the total size of the portable, because the idea of this is that i will be able run the thing off of 1 AA battery, but i will use multiple AAs, and get like 10 Ah.

Those wires don't look insulated to me...are you prepared to deal with 20+ shorts?

EDIT: Are you taping the cartridge to the batteries? ....

yes, the wires are insulated, you have to burn the enamal coating off the tips of the wires with your soldering iron.

no, om not going to tape the batteries

yes, i know i will get 1.2v. the converter i linked to has a guarunteed 1v input, 3.3v or 5v out put 3.3v@ 1 amp, 5v@ .5 amp

10Ah at 1.2v isn't the same as 10Ah at 7.2v. It is 12Wh, which is the same as having a 1.6Ah 7.2v battery. Plus, your step-up converter will probably eat a bit of power because it isn't 100% efficient. So, you'll probably get 10 minutes of playing time.

im impressed but the only thing i didnt get was did you have to do the rewiring to only the 2 wires and then hook the rest to the screen, ground, batteries, and the cart slot. because thats kinda confusing. wouldent you have to have all everything wired up because the only thing i seen that was wired to make it work was the 2 wires. i know that the cart slot had to be wired but im talking about the n64 board.. its barely wired and works. Thats awesome but i just dont get it.

there is a lot of unused area on the n64 board that can be trimmed off, not all of it is needed.
