Does the retro duo have a lock out chip?

Includes but not limited to: SNES, Genesis, Sega CD, PlayStation 1, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, Game Gear and I guess the Virtual Boy.

Does the retro duo have a lock out chip?

Post by stuntpenguin007 »

I got a famicom pirate cart at a thrift store a while back, and I finally got around to fixing my retro duo so I could play it on something other than a "power joy".

I've tested other games with the famicom pin adapter thing and they work fine, but my pirate cart doesn't. So I figured it might be some kind of lock out chip, or just a compatibility issue.

I really want to play PandaMar :)

edit: probably should have put this in the NES section, but oh well.

Its a compatibility issue, most clone consoles are basically only 99% compatibile or sometimes even less.

Clones do not have lock out chips......or at least they shouldn't. Lockout chips where only established by Nintendo so they could control the game designers content on their consoles.

No lock-out chip, but it doesn't pass the 50Hz check for PAL games

i do believe (and this is only based on what I think I remember) you can actually mod the Hz number, much like on the real SNES. You need the right crystal.
