Wireless n64 controller
So I got this idea a while back ago. I thought that maybe you could take the components from an rc car and use the transmitter and receiver to make a wireless n64 controller. Maybe I'm just an idiot but could this possibly work? I have been testing this concept with a gamecube controller but to no avail. I really don't know where I could possibly hook up the data cable to but I really don't know that much about circuitry. I have read this post but it didn't really seem to clear anything up http://forums.benheck.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=23665" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Why not use a WaveBird reciever and sender thingy?
Although an RC car controller is creative, I'm not sure if the voltage would be right. N64 uses around 3 volts for controllers. Would an RC car run off that?

Re: Wireless n64 controller
I tested the transmitter (remote) and I was able to run it off of 3 volts even though it was being powered by a 9v battery. I also got the receiver (guts of car) to run off of 5 volts but that was with the motors hooked up so it could probably use less without motors

Re: Wireless n64 controller
You need to be able to send data both ways. The controller doesn't actually continually send out the state of the buttons. Rather it responds to requests from the the N64 and then sends out the state of all the buttons, even the ones that aren't pressed. I was actually working at making my own N64 controller with a PIC. I was heading towards getting a proof of concept working (I was using a 16f628a so no built in ADCs for the joystick) when I fried the last of my PICs by putting 12V into it accidentally.
The idea was that after making my own PIC controller I might be able to grab a couple of wireless modules and play around with making it wireless however there is a problem there. The N64 controller needs to respond to the request signal within a few µs. This means obviously that you've got to be pretty fast responding.
In any case I digress. What is important is that it is unlikely that you're RC controller will work because it is only unidirectional.

Re: Wireless n64 controller
Thanks for that. That clears up that idea. I might want to look into the wavebird thing though

For this you might want to go Xbee.

I wouldn't even know where to begin with wiring that thing

Re: Wireless n64 controller
you could always build the cube64 and use your wireless or wired gamecube controllers on the n64.
