xbox 360 hard drive theory?

Do you have a technical question that doesn't really fit a specific console? Want some general info on electronics, hacking, making cookies, etc? Here's the place to ask! Go nuts.

xbox 360 hard drive theory?

Post by BuLLeT9923 »

i have made an xbox 360 laptop and decided i wanted to do another one and wanted to come up with a more sleeker design where i can have an internal HDD and have a spot to be able to have an external HDD drive if wanted..now probably you will all say what is the point of that..well i will be using it mostly and dont mind not being able to remove my HDD but with my current one..my friends have wanted to use their HDD to play with on the laptop..for me to incorporate a removable HDD with my design will cause it to be much bulkier and wider (mine is currently at 18"x12"x3" (3" is only the bottom not the monitor part) with the PSU in the case) i was wondering if you could split 2 wires coming out of each pinout for the HDD splot and be able to plug in 2 HDD will it come up on the screen to use certain devices...i know when you go to save a game it asks for you too choose a device (i know this has to do with the memory cards more than anything but in theory it sounds like it could work with the HDD)

please let me know of any ideas to help or comments on the theory

How can you not know this yet have the skills to build a 360 laptop or did you just attach a screen to your 360 and call it a laptop.

You can't just split wires up and attach multiple devices unless the hardware interface was designed for it...If someone has found a way to expand the onboard sata controller you might be able to use that. The 360 does have USB so you can easily use an external HDD for media and other garbage. I have not payed close enough attention to recent 360 hacking to be able to tell you if you could put games on a usb drive though.

yeah nah i found a way to do it by talking to someone else and i was surprised i didnt come up with it..im just going to wire a switch so it would switch between both connections because the xbox wouldn't boot up if i connected both the the motherboard..the only problem with the switch is that you cant touch it when the game is on or it would shut off and could mess up all your data..so it as to be switched to whichever one you want to use before you start up the xbox

and no i didnt just attach a screen to the 360 and call it a laptop..i actually made one similar to bens in his tutorial but added more features (which he later included in his later ones)..i just was thinking stupid and too fast last night

show us at least pictures and then you might get taken seriously, you cna not just attach a switch to the sata connection on a 360 jard drive, for a start you would need a 6 pole switch ( 4 for data, 1 +5V, 1 for ground) and despite MS's idiotic idea to make the HDD removable , sata is not hot swappable, i doubt this is real and is sut vapour ware, but if it is then your 360 is screaming in pain.

there are no pictures to show because it is still being figured out..this post was supposed to have people help with the idea and try and figure out if there is a way to do it..people have been pming me with their ideas and so far the only logical one that makes sense is a switch that switches between 2 different connections...i have no found a switch yet that i can use so i was thinking of making one myself..i am still researching more about it before i attempt to try it

and about taking me serious why dont you read the 1st post and see i was looking for people to help with the idea..this forum is about helping people with their ideas and technical problems and all that..everyone on here has questions and each question should be taken seriously and answered seriously
