Making a portable Xbox 360 rechargeable

I'm a noob at reconfiguring game consoles and I'm just wondering if anyone knows how to make a 360 rechargeable?

actually, its free. go out in your drive way, pop open the hood of your car, yank that battery. its roughly 800 amps, at 12v. that'll run it.

well then. lets see. the 360 draws roughly 160 watts, so for two hours, you need a 320 watt battery, at 12 volts. of course, the voltage conversion for the 5 volt and 3.3v line arent very efficient, so assume you need nearly 350 watts. so, 4 of these:

should run a 360 for about two hours. however, 160 watts is average power draw between gaming, dashboard, movies, and stuff. so, if you are running some hard gaming session, it probably draws more like 200 watts peak, which would mean more like 1.3 hours.

P.S., that battery pack would take more than two days to charge.

What we're trying to get at here is that putting a battery on the 360 is not really worth it. It's a power hog to run hd games and the like. It would be a huge and expensive battery. So unless you don't care about size and you don't mind spending $300 on it then we don't recommend it.

Hypothetically, do you think that the 360 could run on those batteries? it may not be able to take much over 12v since it's designed to take an regulated voltage from the power supply. and if you hooked it directly to the power supply, it might not be enough juice, because it's designed to run off the wall (DC?).

Yeah I dont see why you wouldn't be able to run an xbox on batteries. Two of the ones linked to would probably work, with all the right regulators. I mean they run cars off of lithium batteries.

Course, two of those batteries is already close the size of a laptop.

Doesn't the newer xbox use up less power? And I thought 160 was close to the maximum?

The new one is the one that takes 160W, the 2006 original took 203W

You could power the 360 with one of these batteries, it's just a matter of how long it would last. If you add more batteries you add playtime.

If you got two of these and arranged the cells into one layer, it would only add maybe a quarter inch to the thickness. You also need to think about the draw of the screen, as well.

well my basic goal is to just make a more compact xbox that is rechargeable. my idea for a screen is all in a pair of personal theatre sunglasses. since i will be able to make the actual console more compact, adding a battery to the size will be fine. How many of those batteries do you think i would need in order to power my xbox for 3 hours?
