of course, it is possible, just not economical. there is this:

which would work, but theres a slight problem. 2000 MINIMUM ORDER QUANTITY
beyond that, there are a few other similar boards like that. i am following up a lead on one companies in particular, which may be good. they haven't emailed me back yet, however. more info on that later.

For the last 5 years I have used laptop screens in DIY projectors. There used to be a guy on Ebay that sold the controller with cables/inverter/etc. You would email him with the Lcd model # and in 3-4 weeks you would get your controller. It was around $60-$70. Unfortunately he doesn't do it anymore.

I have another connection in China that will do this also, but it really is easier to get a 15"-17" screen which already has the controller built in, usually cheaper to.
