I finally get paid for what I do :)

Post by alentris »

So my friend came to me with his broken XPS like a week ago (like the third thing I've gotten from him). Turns out the GPU was shot, kinda like a RROD on the 360. So, with my knowledge of RROD fixing, I decided to go out on a limb and fix the GPU that way. To make a long story short, I ended up baking it in the oven. And it worked  . So, I got paid $100 for putting a laptop part in the oven xD

Don't limit yourself to electronics repair. Household appliances are very easy to work on and you can make up to a couple hundred for just replacing something simple. Before I moved, I used to fix washers, dryers, ovens, etc. for people and people where very willing to pay over $100 for what I did.

I would have charged more, but since it was for a friend I put it at $10 an hour. My dad wants me to make business cards now, with a rate of $20 an hour. (which is cheaper than anything I've seen.

depends how old you are really, but a saturday job in somewhere like a small local computer shop can pay very nicely, and if nothing else, if the owner is nice they will probably give you cool stuff for free :).

Hope it lasts, laptop reflows are a bit riskier than 360 ones, the board is a lot more liable to flex and ruin the precarious connections.

Good job, though. :)

I told them that, and Offered to buy the laptop from them (it's a beast), but they still want it.

but still do what kibble said. fix appliances too. things like coffee makers and electric razors are very easy to fix. In fact, most coffee maker problems can be fixed just by running vinegar though it several times. Also, doing things like car electronics can be simple and pay a lot too.
