new N64 mini started
i relocated the cart slot a while ago, and just hacked away the edges of the board today
the board isnt much bigger than an N64 cart, here it is.
http://img51.imageshack.us/gal.php?g=hpim0527r.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
there seems to be aproblem, though. when i turn it on, its a very loud buzzing noise and the video is very distorted. my two conclusions are that its not hooked up right or there isnt enough grounding to every chip on the board. does any one have the have the video outputs? (from the pinouts on the chips)

I assume you did a lot of re-wiring? Because you cut through a LOT of traces that need to be there.
If so you need a good N64 board and trace everythin back and then compare to your cut down board.

ill try to add some wires between the grounds. the system works, but the video and sound are just distorted. ill try RGB and see how it works out.

Re: new N64 mini started
im thinking that i cut the ground off from some of the chips. if the chips dont have ground they wont work. any way, it has something to do with the chip that out puts the audio and video.

lol, at least it was something simple.bentendo64 wrote:dumm me, i forgot to connect ground to my tv!, it worked great on the first try.
Nice cutting job on that N64. When I saw the picture I immediately thought there was no way it could still work, so I congratulate you on proving me wrong.

your n64 will be what I'm basing my trimmings on.(what are those 2 cables at the top connecting?)

Re: new N64 mini started
can we get a pic of the back of the board?
Re: new N64 mini started
looking back at the pics, you can get a lot closer to those traces, making the mobo even smaller.
Re: new N64 mini started
Dont forget it's a 2 sided board. He may have cut as close as possible to traces on the other side of the board already. Only way i can see it getting smaller is re wiring the cart slot to the RCP.mako321 wrote:looking back at the pics, you can get a lot closer to those traces, making the mobo even smaller.

Re: new N64 mini started
ok, heres the back of the board

i also got the heat sink done, i made it as flat as possible to make the total thickness of the system as thin as possible. http://img693.imageshack.us/gal.php?g=hpim0529.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
and the only thing that stops me from soldering the cartridge connector to the RCP is the thick white paint where its already soldered.

Oh my Gordan Freeman, that is tiny!
This may be smaller then Palmer's secret N64Mini. If you're gonna make this small, use a 3.5" screen.
