N64 voltage, battery, and general help ???

Hi, i am currently making a PSoneP from Ben's book and i wont get around to making my N64P for some time, but there is no way that i am not going to make it. I just want to plan for the future.
Anyway, i mentioned the PSoneP because it runs off of a Sony 7.2 volt info lithium L battery. Would the battery also work to power the N64? other batteries are so expensive but the generic versions of the Sony battery sell fairly cheap on ebay and they have the right voltage.
I want to use this battery so i can clip it on the back (like the PSoneP) and make it easily replaceable so that i can stick on the big F-900 info lithium batteries with 6600Mah. How many Mah does the N64 take altogether with a modded PSone screen?

I am not creative enough to make any super fancy cases so i am going to keep it simple by making it out of polystyrene plates and aluminum walls. I was considering frankencasing a ZN-45 but i dont like how the front on the box has grooves which stick up. If i did end up making that case, what brand of bondo would work for frankencasing?
Also what are the electric components required to step down the voltage to 3.3V? Where can i get them? is there a topic which discusses splitting N64 controllers?
Finally what kind of things do the forum members do to develop the skills to make these portables? i really want to understand the process well so that i can read circuit boards, be able to identify the components needed for the system, and ultimately be awesome at making portables?
I do have a general idea of the components needed to make it, but i would like suggestions from people who already made N64P's. Thanks for all the help

- Yes the same battery would work for an N64.
- I'm not sure exactly how much MaH the N64 + screen draw, but you need 4000 minimum.
- People here use all different kinds of bondo and fillers, you just need to experiment until you find one that works for you.
- For the 3.3v regulator you will need a TI chip (PTH08080WAZ or similar) a 100 uf electrolytic capacitor (above 12v) and a resistor (forget what ohm)
- Many people just learned from experience. Starting out with easy projects and moving on to more difficult ones later.

some more questions- on the n64 wiring diagram by harshboy...there is a resistor connected to ground on the #5 solder point of the PTH08000. Why is a resistor needed there? I thought it was a part of the 3.3 volt line, but im not sure what purpose it serves. would any part of the diagram need to be changed if i was using a 7.2 volt battery?

The resistor sets the voltage to 3.3v
