AA batteries provide 1.5 volts of electricity each, 1.2 if it's rechargeable. A PS2 should get at least 110 volts to run if you do it directly from the power cord (it has a converter inside that knocks everything down to 3.3/5/12 volts, in most cases, like most electronics, though sometimes that converter is outside the device and part of the plug). To get 110 volts you would need 74 normal batteries (110/1.5 rounded up) or 92 rechargeables (110/1.2, rounded up) wired in series (+ end on one connected to - on the other). Then you have to make it AC instead of DC (not as easy as going the other way around) and your battery life probably won't get you much further past the startup screen. That can be increased by using different batteries (C or D cells) or increasing the number of battery sets and wiring each set in parallel (+ on all sets are together, - on all sets are together).zake wrote:2: cant i just snip the power cord for my ps2, then attach it to a battery holder, and let it run off the batteries?
A slightly more viable option for a luggable (but not portable) PS2 is to wire a car battery to a power inverter (something that lets you power small electronics from the 12 volt cigarette lighter in a car) but I'm really not sure what kind of battery life you can reasonably expect from that. You can also get a little more playtime with an LCD (flat) tv instead of a CRT (tube) one.
