Psone screen question

Post by joeafro »

Okay so im sure im being a complete idiot but here goes.

I just recieved my project case and its a little smaller than i thought. The N64 mobo fits fine but the psone screen mobo is probably about 10mm to big.

I know there is a way to trim the top of the board with out too much trouble so off i go searching the forums. I see that the only way to cut the top is with a "LED mod thingy" and this is where im lost?

What is an LED mod thingy and why is it needed, what does it do?
Isnt the Psone screen backlit anyway?
Is there a way to trim the top of the screen mobo without the LED mod thingy, by rewiring or something?

Sorry for being a n00b and an advanced thank you for any help

An LED mod does a few things for the screen.
1) Its usually brighter, making it easier to see.
2) LED's use less power than the normal backlight.
3) If you do an LED mod you can cut off the top part of the circuit.
For this mod you need 3mm (or 5mm?) LED's and some resistors; not sure what value.
I really think that doing an LED mod would be easier than relocating those components at the top; not that I've tried it.

To Add on to what AF said,

You need atleast 3 3mm white LEDs, as bright as possible. and a 20Ohm Resistor.

Then you can cut off the entire top, with the Inverter.

I understand that LED mods will actually make the screen less bright. I have a nice battery so power isnt an issue, is there a way to cut the top off and wire to the traces, has this been done before? In effect just moving the top section out the way?
