My Darth64 clone: wiring in rear trigger buttons ?

Greetings all!
I got the Sony PS1 controller for the rear trigger buttons of the Darth64, yet the internals look different from what is in the Hori Mini pad. The PS1 Controller has a flexible mylar printed circuit board coming from the switches. I don't think it's possible to solder onto the mylar PC board. The photos on the website show actual wires coming from the Sony Controller before it's grafted into the back of the Laser Doodle case. I'm wondering if these switches were somehow repaced with another type of tactile switch. Does anybody have any ideas?

I don't think you really need the printed circuit board, just find where the two points of the trigger connect and solder one end the the controller board and the other end to ground. I could be completely off my this but thats what I think.

I pulled the rubber cover off one of the double switches and there isn"t much to solder to. It's more mylar with a thin layer of conductor printed on it. I'm guessing tactile switches were used but don't know what size or type to use. I'm better at body work then electronics. My friend is doing the soldering for me.

the triggers are usually on a seperate pcb to the actual board, just solder to where the wires connect or trace it back to the other pcb connector if you cant

You see, that's the problem. It isn't a "pcb", it's a "pcm" (printed ciruit mylar) yes I made that up. I took it out and removed the internals. I don't see anything I can solder to without melting mylar.

if you trace it all the way back to the actual board part there should be an actual solder point for it/them,

Nope my Ps1 controller had little circuit boards behind the triggers witht those wires coming out connected to the circuit board.

I think I used an older Ps1 controller that didn't have any analog thumbsticks. Maybe buy one of those ?

Can't you just put the N64 switches inside the PS1 controller? Although the pad for Z is kinda big..

You don't need to try and use the original pcb, just get some tacts.

I had a thought... what are the chances that both of the PS1 controllers I bought were the same? Not very good! Number two has pcb switches!

Thanks that is good information. I also found that the anolog PS1 controller is 1/4" narrower then the newer one.

hmm ok maybe get rid of the "pcm" as you call it and attach some metal to the ends of the little push buttons and attach some metal to the area the "pcm" rested on. If that doesn't work I would suggest buying one of the older psone controllers (the ones where the l1/r1 buttons are the same size ans the l2/r2 buttons).
