What the diff between RGB and WRY?
I want to know whats a difference between RGB cables and white red yellow video output, and which one is better? Im connecting my retro duo to my PS1 screen. I heard that the WRY are better and easyer. Tell me what you guy think.
Re: What the diff between RGB and WRY?
RGB:
Red line
Green line
Blue line
Sync line
Composite:
Red, Blue, Green and sync cramped all in one line
The red and white you are talking about is right and left audio, you'll want this for both connections.
It can be compared to the RF connection, that one has all the video and the audio in one line.
There's also component, which has 3 video lines (plus 2 audio).
The quality order is quite obvious:
RGB
Component
Composite
RF
There's also the aspect of retro-games being programmed with a standard in mind. Some genesis games for example looks like crap with RGB, because it was intended for RF where the smearing of colors produced new colors that it wasn't in the pallete and transparency could be achieved as well.
EDIT: There's also S-video. It is composed of 2 lines. One with brigthness and one with with video. S-video would rank in between Component and composite.
If I've gotten something wrong here, I'm sure the people of this forum will correct me with great vengance and furious anger!

YPbPr is converted from the RGB video signal, which is split into three components, Y, PB, and PR.[3]
* Y carries luma (brightness) and sync information.
* PB carries the difference between blue and luma (B − Y).
* PR carries the difference between red and luma (R − Y).

On a side note the red yellow white composite combination is know as RCA.
Re: What the diff between RGB and WRY?
Actually, the plugs are called RCA. Component also uses RCA jacks and plugs.thewise1 wrote:On a side note the red yellow white composite combination is know as RCA.

Not really, more like the little round jacks and plugs that both use. Calling either 'RCA cables' is murky at best, and more precise terminology should be used.thewise1 wrote:Oh so rca refers to component and composite.
