Hi, I'm new to game system modding, but I figured I'd give it a shot, and came across this forum in my internet searching.
I decided to start with a Gamecube laptop.... I know that it's not the easiest system to size down, but I already bought the parts, and I'm not turning it into a handheld. Rather, I want a "party" machine, with external controllers and a larger screen, so there shouldn't be too many modifications to cram it into a smaller space.
So I bought this old IBM laptop (Plenty of space for the GCN motherboard and parts), and I figured I'd use the monitor to connect to the Gamecube. ...Obviously, as you are probably saying to yourself, I found that it wasn't all that simple.
The monitor has a 70-pin configuration on the motherboard adapter, 35 on either side of the interior of the plug. I tried thinking of ways to use a series of signal converters to get it down to the Gamecube, but it still left me with the same problem, actually connecting to the monitor...
So I'm wondering, is there any possible way to convert an LCD laptop monitor into composite video (or straight into the GCN video out), whether by painstakingly figuring out the pinout configuration, or modifying parts within the monitor? I'm already starting to expect that it's impossible, but I'd like to know for sure before I go buy a different monitor with VGA input.
Thanks for any help.
[Edit] This is probably not even the correct section to be posting this in... My bad.

I believe I am correct in saying this (Any correct me if I m wrong) but, if you would have gone to the screen section in this forum and looked up the screens you can and can't use. Then you would see that you need a encoder for a laptop screen to work. A encoder is about 200 dollars.

I figured just as much, and I had seen that information about encoders in other places, I just wanted to be completely sure. I may just have to look into a VGA monitor.

gamecube isn't compatible with VGA unless you build a converter..
Re: GCN Laptop... Monitor issues
I was going to go the cheap and lazy way and use the composite cable to go into a VGA converter, since the case I have has enough space.

Which IMO looks even worse that just running composite input into a cheap screen. Don't use a VGA screen unless you can put Vga into it.Falco wrote:I was going to go the cheap and lazy way and use the composite cable to go into a VGA converter, since the case I have has enough space.
