Ok true, I missed the part where Its a heatsink from another Xbox 360... that explains why it fit so wellmdh16 wrote:Trust me im following microsorft with this one because before the jasper came out they started putting these on their falcon boards for the dreaded RROD, but i dont see why i should change back to the heat pipe ive never seen any problems come out of one of bens 360 portables of course that he modified his but if i have any problems i have some copper in the back shed then ill modify it, might do it this week depending on other things to do.
But the thing is, you say that that is a heatsink out of a "falcon", which is the newer 360 that runs cooler in the first place. It runs cooler because it has a newer 65nm CPU chip. If you are putting this heatsink into an "older" xbox 360, that does not have a 65nm CPU, you are probably still playing with fire.
Since the 65nm die-shrink made the CPU run cooler, I would not put it past Microsoft to have included a cheaper, heat-pipe less heatsink in order to lower the cost. The reason these Xboxes run cooler is because of whats inside the chip, not the heatsink. The old heatsink looks (to me) like it would work a lot better, it was just a losing battle against that old monster of a processor.
Its like late model Pentium 4's versus the C2D when it came out.
Anyways at the end of the day my argument is pretty pointless without knowing which heatsink actually preforms better.

So today ive started on the gpu heatsink remaking process WHIch turned out to be the worst job ive ever done lmao plus to add to the eyesore my father didnt have any more copper sheets
So I took the unit all apart (plus ben was right add headers they are very usefull for a quick dissasembly)
Instead of aluminum i used the aluminum from the copper cpu heatsink (wish i had copper  )

Re: MY 360 LAPTOP BUILD LOG UPDATE NOV 16
edit: I missed the part you had mentioned that you have an original cpu. I saw the newer heatsink and thought you had the 65nm part. That one runs really cool.
I like seeing someone doing this project. It's a lot of of fun. I'm almost done myself. That original cpu does get really hot so the more you add the better off you'll be. You are lucky you are dealing with the stock height of the heatsink. That will make things a lot easier.
