Xbox dvd drive wont work

Post by thewise1 »

I've got my brothers old xbox and it almost %100 works but there's a slight problem. Sometimes when a game is in the game thins that the xbox 360 is just a dvd player and says please put this dvd into an xbox 360. I've taken apart the dvd drive and cleaned the lens with some windex and a q-tip, but no go. Sometimes it does this with games, some games it doesn't work at all, and some games work all the time.

So any ideas that i can try without replacing the drive altogether?

I had a similar problem, Mine would say there wasn't a disc in at all. I went ahead and replaced the entire drive, but if you don't want to do that, the problem is that the spindle that spins the disc gets gunk on it and wont spin fast enough. If you could find a way to take it apart to grease and clean the spindle you could probably get it working.

So if I was to replace the whole drive I just get the same kind as mine (the samsung one) and replace the main board in the new one with the one I have?

Should probably clarify if this is a 360 or original.. from the sounds of it this is the original xbox and the forum post needs to be moved to the appropriate section.

And if this is an original, then yeah you just need to get a new DVD drive and swap it out. They aren't specific.

If this is a 360, you have already violated the warranty, so you may want to look into your options for re-flashing a 360 DVD drive to work in your box and replace the current one.
