Have you tested the idea I stated above? I thought the extra 5 volts fed into of the pin connectors for the harness was just for use with RGB connections.....

Yeah I tried disconnecting pin 12 from 5v and it doesn't show the volume/brightness indicators. Is there an alternate spot to connect to the composite?
