Dang Nab...........

Today was the funeral :( . There is nothing that can prepare you to see a 12 year old in a casket. And seeing the sleepless, grieving mother who wants to hold her little girl one last time. This is was one of the rare moments that I have been speechless. My aunt (the girl's grandma) asked me how I was doing. And all I could give as an answer was some simple hand and shoulder gestures. I was at a true loss for words.

Many people came. There were family, friends, teachers, other kids who knew her there. The room was packed full of people.

The family's pastor spoke, my cousin's youth pastor spoke, the sister spoke, and the brother spoke. Lots of tear jerking moments followed during and/or after each person spoke.

Forget the crap Hollywood portrays in movies and on TV. That stuff flat outs fails in comparison to the real thing.

Then I came time get ready for the funeral procession to the cemetery. So everybody there got ready to leave. And the pole bearers (which included her brother and two of my other cousins) carried her to the hearse. Then we headed out

I swear and kid not. The procession was at least a mile long. And there was Kentucky Department of Transportation Officers and Local Police (marked and unmarked) lining the whole route to the cemetery, Blocking off the traffic.

We then got to the cemetery. The pole bearers then carried her back out of the hearse and to the temporary pavilion/tent thingy. Which was next to where she was going to be buried. Where she is to be buried is next to where my one of my uncle (her grandpa); and where my grandpa is buried.

Then a few closing words were given by the pastors, and a quick word from the mother. Then some people put roses on her casket. And the funeral was done. Everybody left either for home or to one of the pastors church to have a free provided meal. The mother still grieving, wanted to take her little girl with her. But the people helping her to her car kept trying to comfort her.

I took the quick opportunity after the funeral. To visit the grave of my grandpa who died last year.

Then we (my family) took my grandma home.

And thats basically all I have done today.

(Also, my last name isn't Greenwell if any of you were wondering. And I don't live in McCracken county.)

I hope that God will bring comfort to you and your family.

I was listening to Guns 'n' Roses' Greatest Hits and right when I saw this Knockin' On Heaven's Door came on. May your family be in my prayers.
