Gamecube psu for Dreamcast?

Post by pm_john »

Hi, I have searched but couldn't find any info, I was told it could be done. Could someone kindly show me where I can find the info on using a Gamecube psu in a Dreamcast? Also, how much power does the Gamecube psu output?

Many thanks!

I think, if memory serves me correctly, the GameCube does up to 3 amps on the power supply, which is fine, you need about 1.9amps for the DC roughly.

The GC needs a lot of 1.9v but not so much of the other voltages (3.43v, 5v, 12v) so not sure if the GC power board has enough "uumph" to give enough 3.43v and 5v to the DC - not tried it - may or may not work ok. You can just drive a DC off 7.4v cells, with a TI card for the 5v (or a 7805 with a very thick heatsink and fan nearby) and TI card for about 3.3v though.

It works fine.
I can confirm it, and I think Draftmike did this as well.

I would like to know too, since I recently bought off a Gamecube to get the PSU, but I haven't opened it yet. Is it easy to hook it up?
