Opinions on Ben Heck for an article...

Post by gasolinereinbows »

Hey everyone,

My name is Kelsey and I'm a journalism student at NYU. I am currently working on an article that profiles Ben. I was wondering if anyone here would be interested in talking to me about him? Those of you who know him, it'd be great to get some descriptions of him, and those who don't, it'd be great to get some words of admiration or maybe words of uh, not-so-much admiration. This would really help my piece a bunch.

Anyone interested, my e-mail is klk311@nyu.edu.

Thanks!

- Kelsey

 Honest mistake tho :)

Ben Heck inspired me to get up and make something instead of waiting for Nintendo/Sony/whoever to come out with something cool. This site and his work/mentality has helped me to believe I can create something truly amazing. You can PM me if you want my whole rant. Also, Engadget and many other electronics sites have followed his work over the years (but you probably know that).

I'm pretty sure the only people who have met him on the forums are a couple friends who frequent the forums, and people who have gone to the Midwest Gaming Classic. Also, the Moderators of the forums may know him a little better than the rest of us.

All I have to say is that I have a lot of respect for him. He makes it possible for the disabled to re engage into their hobbies and play games again. He does this knowing he probably isn't going to make much profit and possible not make any. That's why I respect him.

I have much respect for him as well. His one handed controllers are truly made out of benevolence, and, to me, that deserves respect.

Without ben making the forums, I probably never would have learned that I wanted to be an electrical engineer. Without ben making the forums, I probably never would have met some of the coolest people on the planet.

I give many a prop to Ben. His work on the one-handed stuff is most admirable, and without this board, I would be bored, as getting into portablizing/old school gaming has really brightened my life, not to mention most, if not all of the people on here are all darn cool peeps to hang out with (I know for a fact from MGC last year--can't wait for next year!).

How often do you find a message board that attracts people who are actually worth hanging out with for real?

Yeah, that's what I thought.

I have never found Ben mean. I have emailed him before on different matters and he was very nice.

Plus he gave me a free sj3 for just the price of shipping.

Yeah I concur. The sacrifice Ben has made to create an unprecedented site like this is enormous. Just like ShockSlayer, I too realize my passion to be an EE is embedded in me.

For those of you with underlying issues, keep it out of this topic as it is irrelevant and unwanted. PM each other if you must resolve something.

Ok folks, this thread turned more into a feces-throwing party more than anything else, not just at Ben, either. If you have something you want to say, you have an email address you can go to. Everyone involved in the previously-mentioned feces throwing will get a PM in a minute. Now, let's let this guy work on his article, no?
