When people always type like that, it makes them come across as unintelligent. That's why we encourage that people write in real words, not random abbreviations. :P

Come on, how hard is it to actually type real words? Not hard at all. You mentioned our foreign users, what about them? Are they supposed to just shut up when they don't understand if "ptorbale" is a new word or portable? It's NOT HARD to type in real words. I'd rather have this:

I like to type in real words and sentences.

Or even this:

i like to type in real words

Rather than this:

i leik tootipe in reel wrds

Wouldn't you rather have the bottom?

Since when do you have the right to tell us NOT to complain about "tihs knd fo cpar"? Didn't see 'Moderator" or "Admin" in your title, or even a title at all.

you did it wrong. You see, you can't change the first and last letter. ;) I forgive you.

Edit: but I forgot to say my "your right and Im wrong" statement. It works for people that like to argue.

I thought you were telling us not to be critical, and now you're doing the opposite.

I also love how you completely ignored everything I wrote and addressed some little mistake in misspelling a word.

People will not take you as seriously if you "r p0sten liek tis". People pay attention more when it is easier to read, and are more helpful and friendly when it comes to answering questions. Trying to pick the question out of seemingly random babble isn't really worth people's time, so they won't even bother.

Grammar is kinda hit and miss, English is the sux when it comes to remembering all the rules. I let it slide a bit. On the other hand, there is almost no excuse for bad spelling. Firefox has spell check built in, and a quick trip on Google showed that other browsers either come with spell checkers or its at least possible to add one. Unless its an obscure word, your browser should be able to help you find the right spelling. Even worse than bad spelling is the needless abbreviations like "r" and "u".
Basically, if you want people to take you seriously, take everyone else seriously. If I see "i is wantin 2 built 360 labtop. help wood b gr8.", I assume they aren't taking this seriously, and I close the tab.

I'm somewhat of a lurker here, though I visit the forum daily. I just wanted to express that one of my favorite things about this forum is how anal people are about grammar. It's nice to see at least some people who strive to be more intelligent and hold others to the same standard, rather than constantly catering to the lowest common denominator. There are enough retards on the internet, and a technology-oriented forum such as this is the last place I want to have to deal with some idiot who types like a six-year-old on a cell phone. Can I comprehend it? Probably. Does it make me cringe every time? Absolutely.

Besides, if you can't even type a properly constructed sentence in your native language (excluding foreign members obviously), what are the chances that you can build a fully functional portable game system? Although technically unrelated, I'd say there's a correlation.

Very valid opinions guys; however, I do think it would be ridiculous to expect every user to check their post via Firefox or Microsoft word. That is OCD - and cringing just because of spelling errors!? - you might want to think about that. I had this same debate with AdorableChevy (something like that), and she said the same thing as the rest of you.

I, however, am speaking for the silent portion of this site. I have seen plenty of good spellers that post BS. Just like the post count, I have learned, spelling is not a judge of intelligence. Spelling: use it, don't worship it.

And honestly, if a judge of character is purely based off spelling then we have other issues entirely. In the context of a hacking website, I could care less about spelling as long as its eligible. Interviews, resumes, etc; they need good spelling and grammar. On this site, I don't really care about spelling. I usually stay "proper' because I'm in the "intellectual mood" when I get on here ;)

But will I close a tab for bad spelling? Hell no! Only if the user is BSing.

@Triton, I'm timing you on this one. Better get started.

Think about this: BenHeck forums are an ENGLISH forum. However, we get a lot of visitors from countries like France, Japan, Germany, etc. Not only does bad grammar make you look unintelligent and to consider your posts to be worth so little that you cannot spend a second fixing them, but people from these other countries, either using auto translators, or struggling to understand the English themselves, are going to be completely stymied when it comes to your posts. This may not matter on personal things, or on "fun" forums, like general purpose gaming forums. But these forums are dominiantly an informational source, and you should treat it as such.

With the serious stuff other have not covered, two cheap shots:

1. LOL, TIC FOR TAC. This is why people need to LITERATURE MOAR.

2. "Come on guys. We are hacking modders" Reminds me of times on this and other forums when people post things along the lines of "I R TEWH 1337 HAXXMODZR, SO DONT B HATGIN EANGLHS IS 4 TH NOOBZ DUN DUSREPCT". It does not matter WHAT we are, here or otherwise. Take that extra second to think about your post, and make sure it lacks easy to correct mistakes. For it not for my propensity to have well worded, quasi-logical posts, I would have been perma-ban'd a long, long time ago.
