Heatsink question and discussion

Is it better to have a fan sucking in cool air from outside the case or blow out the hot air from inside to the outside. I have seen it done both ways...

Also, I wouln't mind if people could post their different methods for some great small heat sinks. I really don't understand the liquid heat sinks at all so......

A diagram of what you are trying to do would help. Generally if you have one exaust fan and some intake holes, the cool air should be sucked through the case and blown out the back.

thx for the reply man (I assume you're a man). Would 2 smaller fans (one for sucking in cool air and one for blowing out hot air from the heat sinks) be more ideal than just the big ol Gamecube fan???

whats funny is i have the same exact question....

Thumbs up for the idea of having two fans 1 to blow in and 1 to blow out...i would have never thought about that (not sure if it is right, but sounds cool!)

Thanks! Yeah it works quite nicely. One of my GC portables (I am working on 2) I might just have to GC fans in it for create better air flow. And since my power consumption is really low to begin with, it shouldn't be an issue.

I would say you'd prefer a intake fan over an exhaust arrangement. Why? You are forcing cooler air into the unit as opposed to trying to suck air out of your 'less than air dynamic interior design' of a portable machine.

You should be sure to balance the surface area on the exhaust side to match that of the intake - just to keep it as open as possible, no back-pressure on the fan to cause premature wear and higher current consumption to keep running.

I've never looked at liquid cooling before.

All consoles I know of that use a single fan blow the hot air out of the system .... right?

If so I would say they knew what they were doing
