Answering machine = $0.50
portable telephone = $2.00-$10.00 (more than that and their playin with ya)
Old VCR = $10.00 MAX
Nice shirt = $5.00 MAX
Nice Jeans = $5.00 MAX
Perfect condition size 12 skateboarding shoes = $5.00 (the pare was easily worth $80 and YES i bought them)
Boom box = $10.00 MAX

Shady Warehouse Stores are your FRIEND! Visit these friends often, but remember, its just a friendship and nothing more.

Gamecube, 2 controllers, powerchord adapter = $10.00 MAX
Full Size TV = $20.00
Portable DVD = $10.00-$20.00
Computers = $30.00-$70.00 ( %80 sure)
Chords of ALL sizes, other junk = $0.50-$10.00

Ebay is your ACQUAINTANCE! Fun to talk to when you need something from them, but realize they would back stab you just as you would them.

PS1 screen = $70.00 although clever bidding skills will get you one for around $50.00
Good portable battery = $20.00 (rough estimate)
Excellent portable battery = $50.00-$110.00 (rough estimate)

But seriously, many of the non-nerd friends like the jocks, the goths, the weedies, the valedictorians and the actors(hehe) could care less about their old, out of date video game system. Why not do them a favor and take it off their hands?

Advice #?: Cheap gamers love Steam Every weekend they have a sale on one game or bundle, and occasionally they have a really cheap sale in the middle of the week for no reason. For example, when Gordon Freeman won GameSpot's hero contest all the Half-Life series games were 50% off for a couple days. Today only, Assassin's Creed is $5. Bioshock was $5 some months ago. After the holidays, they usually have a big discount sale on everything they sell.

Advice #+1: Gift Cards are your friends. If you have a mall owned by Simon Malls in your area, get one of their gift cards to shop online with. It costs $2 to load a card (and unfortunately they don't let you add money to them), but you can buy them with cash for shopping at miscellaneous stores (safer than a real credit card, which is tied to you personally) and they're accepted anywhere that takes regular Visa cards. Other mall chains may have a similar deal.

Auctions are your friend!not ebay, but actual local auctions. check the online ads, the paper ads and everything, diligent searching can turn up auctions where you will get INCREDIBLE deals on just about anything you can think of. the key to good deals is to be there for the things that the other auction goers dont know! popular items at a generic local auction will be things like antiques (glassware, toys, furniture, etc etc) tools (any kind), car parts and whole vehicles, and even things you wouldnt think of (lumber, scrap metal etc). you cant win em all but if you play your cards right you can turn a profit or get killer deals on a regular basis!

Online classifieds are good. Craigslist is pretty much universal, but you may be better off with a more local site (a local news station, KSL, has one that is more popular than craigslist around here).
Wholesale lots, whether on ebay or elsewhere, are a good way to get stuff cheap. You might even make money if you sell what you don't need individually.

Deals sites (dealnews.com, dealram.com) are good. They do the shopping around and hunting that you don't want to and give you the lowest prices for most mainstream products you're looking for on the web. They also categorize the deals they have and note the base price, along with shipping. Most of the time they'll compare it to prices they found elsewhere, and let you know about previous or similar deals

Sites with coupon codes are good. Most of the time if there's something you're ordering from a major online retailer, if you goole "(x store's name) coupon code" or "promo code," sites will come up that will give you different codes to enter in. A lot of the time, this will get you nice discounts or free shipping. Sometimes they even stack.
