From 9v to 5v

Which is the best way (easy, economical, efficient) to reduce from 9 volts to 5 volts?

But I need at least 7,5 volt.
I would like to drop the battery when it is at least 5,5 or 6 volts

7805 is the opposite of efficient, but it is easy and cheap. How many amps does it need to handle? I would check some cigarette lighter cell phone chargers/USB ports for 5v regulators if you need something more efficient.

TI PTH08080 ought to do fine for regulation to 5v up to 2.25 amps I believe, easy to assemble, free plus a few cents for a resistor and capacitor.
