Hey forums.
I've been considering heavily whether or not I should make an SNES portable. Mind I'm not electronically inept, much the opposite, I've worked with electronics quite a bit. I have $100 as of right now to invest in the project. I just don't want to invest and realize that there won't be any return on the work.
So should I?

1. Portables are fun
2. You can sell them for about $350 here
A lot of us make them for fun and sell them. Plus having your own and impressing people with it isn't bad either. As long as you put a lot of planning and research into it, and some steady hands, it should turn out great. A lot of portabilizing is just wiring a diagram that you see online.
The real skill is in making the case. (and making it as small as possible if you're trying to be competitive with other portabilizers
)

I'm not sure really where to start, because there are quite a few different guides, and every one of them have different methods. That makes me wonder whether one is better, or if one is wrong

All of the information here is uploaded by us after we've done it ourselves. This is the main outlet for portables. As for what console the NES or SNES is best. It cartridge based so much easier then CD. And somewhat cheaper.
The reason I don't recommend N64 is because the motherboard is notorious for being easily fryable.

Yeah, I've been looking on eBay and I'm not sure if I'll be able to do this for $100 dollars, which is my goal. SNES Mini's are expensive!

try looking for a retro duo, its smaller, and i think its easier to work with, but thats just me.

My main advice is to work on getting a screen and the system working together first. Then see if you can get it all running off of batteries. Once you've done that, you will have a better idea of where you want to go from there whether that includes going ahead and making a portable out of it or if you just want to put the Super Nintendo back together and move on to another project.

I was actually thinking of doing a Retro Duo, but I would really like to relocate the cart slot, and relocating two sounds like hell
Again, thanks for the advice Brian. That's sort of how I planned on doing it, making sure the system and screen work as is, take them apart and make sure they work, then get them running off batteries, and then stuff it in a box

I'd also like to ask if this could make a suitable case. It seems like it would work as well as the ZN-40 dimension-wise, and I'd like to try something new.
