Okay so you want to know about copying games to your XBOX. Here is the deal. Xbox uses a different file system than your computer. It is called FatX. Native xbox files cannot be read by your laptop from the dvd for two reasons, 1. the different file system, 2. the hardware involved. XBOX DVDs are read backwards, and their disks are made that way. You cannot just hook up a Xbox dvd drive to your computer and have it read the disks. doesn't work. So how do you get your Games to your computer?
recipe requires:
1. a modded (soft or hard) Xbox, 2. a router or cross over cable, 3. connecting a computer to router or cross over cable, 4. an FTP program, 5. patience, lots of patience.
Ok so you connect your modded xbox via router or cross over cable. I recommend router, it is just better and easier in the long run. You put your Xbox game into your xbox. You select the option in one of the programs (pretty much every dash includes something but you can download a program to run from your dash that has this functionality) to copy the xbox dvd to your xbox hard drive. Once it is completed this operation, you FTP from your computer through your router to your xbox. You create a new folder on your computer and transfer the xbox files to your computer. From this point I am a little hazy and cannot remember if you have to do something else special to complete the process after this. Alternatively, you can find the xISO files on the interwebs and download them. You can see why it would be easier to replace the stock xbox hard drive and just copy games from your xbox dvd to the new hard drive without the need for a computer, or to just download and burn the games you want. Alternatively, you can download and then FTP the games to your xbox as well. Be aware that softmods need a savegame or PC to complete, not laptop

You can use a laptop... And what do you mean or PC? You need the save, and the computer, unless you have a magical fairy that puts saves on your XBOX...Harlequin wrote:Be aware that softmods need a savegame or PC to complete, not laptop

For copying games to hard disk just use DVD2xbox. It'll work with movies as well.
Once you have a copy of the game you can then transfer it to your computer. Your
computer cannot read an xbox disc but it can burn discs that a modded xbox can play.

You can softmod an XBOX without a save game, with a PC. It is called the HotSwap softmod. You get all of your mod files/dash onto a disk via custom ISO. Boot your computer with the custom disk. Turn on your XBOX and play a music track and pause it. Unplug the IDE cable from the XBOX and plug in an IDE cable to the XBOX Hard drive into the computer. Select the option to backup and mod the XBOX. Done. Reboot the XBOX with the IDE plugged back into the Hard Drive. Viola, softmodded XBOX without a save game.
and yes I understand that technically you could get a laptop IDE to regular IDE converter and do this, but a project like this shouldn't require taking apart a laptop considering any P3 could do this. Heck a P2 probably could.

Oh. The save file thing seems easier, but you need a XBOX controller-usb converter. My brother home-made one.Harlequin wrote:You can softmod an XBOX without a save game, with a PC. I prefer hotswap because you need an XBOX a PC and a CD burner to complete. Thankfully all have been available since 2001.
No need for converters, memory cards, games, etc.
that being said, I think they are both good.
