SMS sound problem

Post by darkslime »

So I have a sms that emits no sound. my other master system sound works fine with the same rf cable, i have tried with multiple rfs.

anyone have ideas what it is and how to fix it? someone told me its probably a broken cap but i have no idea how to fix this.

boy, I'm not sure about sound on the SMS.... if it is a dead cap the first thing to check is if it peaked. The top of each cap should be flat and not bulging. If it looks like a stove top jiffy popcorn package about 20 seconds before she bursts then it is a dead cap.

aside from that i suppose you could use a multimeter and compare the voltages around the RF and trace back whichever one doesn't add up. If you put in identical games and start both systems at the same time you can reference one against the other...

You can find the SMS's sound output at pin 15 of the 315-5246 chip (between the cartridge slot and the controller ports) and it should also be on the negative pin of the capacitor C31, which is close to the CXA 1145 chip. You can find GND on pin 24 of the CXA 1145 chip, and plenty of other places too.
Hope this helps.
