Original NES controller

Hey i was just wondering if anyone could give any advice on using the original nes controller instead of buying tact switches. I know i can get 50 for $10 but i get paid bi-weekly and really dont want to wait. I have herd its difficult but any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Well, it is only remotely difficult if you cut up the original board. And that isn't really hard because all it requires is some basic soldering skills, following traces (having another out so you can compare the two is a good idea) and some patience.
So no, it is not hard, and I'm not sure where you heard it was hard.

(Also, tact switches aren't the way to go. Unless you use rubber tact switches. Still, the real deal is always better.)

one of the other stickies said it was difficult. i would want to cut it in half to have a/b and the D-pad on opposite sides. is that possible?

Yes, it is possible.



Basically, after you cut the board, scrape off the ends of the contacts until you see copper. Then just solder wires to reconnect them. If you wanted to move the Select and Start buttons around, do the same exact thing.

The NES controller is one of the easiest to work with because it's so simple. I like the feel of the buttons naturally better than tacts but some like tacts better. Do whichever you like best.
