I just made a really sweet radio in an altoid, like the mp3 but its radio, but then the batterys got hot and the tape melted and now it wont work.

if the battery is heating up to the point things are melting you did not wire it correctley

i wired it the same as if it was the origianal. i didnt modify it at all...

This may sound obvious, but did you completely insulating the inside of the case? Batteries heat up liket that for me when they short out. Just line the entire thing with electrical tape, if that's the problem.

Altoids are just mints. Go to any grocery store or other department store with candy at the checkout lines. They should have them.

also, if you want an nesp in an altoids tin, they sell special tins that are the size of 8 tins, 2x2x2 tins big! I want to get one of those little mint tins (smaller than an altoids one) from starbucks and make it an nes controller. it would be about 2-1/2x2in.
