Polaroid battery question?

the Polaroid portable dvd player battery has 2 batteries connected together each one is 3.7v together making 7.4v would it be possible to just connect the n64 to one of the batteries to get the 3.3v with 3.7v or will the 3.7v fry it.
if it worked would you still need a regulator

I'm not sure that the 3.3 v line can handle that, and it would be far too much work figuring that out compared to just getting a PTH08000, and it could be harmful to the battery to do it that way as well.
