Genesis Mark III

Excuse me for being a little ignorant here.....but i either forgot or did not know about the Genesis Mark III. The smallest Genesis with official cartridge slot that i've seen so far. I went back to my local game shop and asked to trade in the Mark I for a Mark II i saw they had got a few weeks back since I had bought it off them originally. Sadly they we're out of Mark IIs and had a Mark III which I don't believe i've ever had the blessing of seeing and it didn't cost me any difference to trade. Sucks though, the AV cables that they gave me only supports Mono and Video, not L+R audio and video.


The reason I made this thread is to get information on it. It looks like a great Genesis to mod into a portable because of size.

Is it? What are the specs? Does it run on a straight DC 10v current or does it cut it down for the internal components? Yes, no expansion slot, but i don't intend on using a Sega CD add on.

.......on a side note, the original NES costs 50-60 bucks at Games+Plus, because its rare to find one working?.....

Btw it technically is called the Mark III, but is often referred to as Genesis 3. Doesn't matter to me.

Did some reading on wiki.....
Dont care if the 32x or CD add on is not compatible with this unit.
Don't need a game genie.
Size is only a factor for portablizing, why i'm posting here, hehe dont care if a controller can pull it off a shelf
They do say some where not supporting Stereo and only mono output despite the AV compatibility with the Genesis mark II....

I looked at the mobo itself, it does seem that L+R audio are neglected unless there is more than a one layer in this board.
Question, is there a possible mod for putting the genesis 3's audio output into stereo or is it not worth it. (Space issue maybe)

I don't have much experience on these things, so i wouldn't know where to route L+R Audio from.

I'll get around to testing to make sure if it is routed already or not........gotta jerry rig a cable up to test it.

On the AV jack itself, the second audio pin is routed straight through the mono channel. To get stereo, you have to "go further in", as it were. Scroll down about two-thirds of the way, and there's a section labeled "Genesis 3 Stereo and Import Modification". I haven't done it, but it looks fairly straightforward. You're going to get your audio from three spots, for L, R, and Sound Effects. You'll need to buy or salvage another LM324. Then, you should be able to just follow the amp pinouts to hook it all up.

there are 2 versions of the genesis 3, one you can pull stereo right from the AV plug, the other you need to get it straight off the chips and build a second amp circuit for the right channel.
