Sound died.

Post by Kurt_ »

So uhm... my computer's sound just died. I'm not sure what I did or didn't do. It might be because of the plugging in and removing of USB speakers. I reinstalled the drivers, checked the Master Volume and it's not muted and the proper device is currently selected. It's not the mute button on my laptop, either.

The drivers are fine in device manager, and it works through headphones just fine (physical volume up/down/mute buttons on laptop work too.)

The usb speakers work just fine too. But I don't get a thing out of the internal speakers.

Laptop: T61 7662

Any suggestions? It just kinda quit on me.

Driver conflict?

If you've got a sound driver for the USB speakers, and a sound driver for the internal audio hardware, might be conflicting. Try going into device manager and uninstalling ALL audio devices, including your internal, and reboot - let it find the onboard audio hardware again, see if that fixes it.

The problem was some weird Lenovo thing. Something or other overloaded, and leaving it off unplugged for a bit fixed it.

...Turns out that was a temporary fix.

I ran PC-Doctor for Windows, and everything turned out okay. The HD Audio Bus passed the diagnostics. I played a song in Winamp, and no audio.

... Anyone have ANY idea? Software problem? Hardware?
