Ripping method and battery options

Post by x24 »

Umm.. I've been reading Ben's book and been looking at the site daily and in the process of taking apart a semi-broken n64 i decided to do the pull/rip apart method of getting into.. after about a 1/2 hour of splitting at it with a flat screw driver I started to think "hmm.. is this gonna damage anything that is important" so i was wondering.. if I ripped the top off that thing.. would things like the power button (reset button is already screwed) and the extended memory be damaged beyond repair??

I'm just being cautious before I completly let the thing have it..

The other question is about a power source.. back when the original gameboy was out.. I had an outside battery pack that you could kinda set in your pocket and I always like that kinda setup.. if I made a small battery pack do you think i'd be able to make one that can be used with most portable projects I make so I can make the actualt handhelds lighter or would it be too much hassle and I should just build them into the case..

as I said when I interoduced myself.. I'll probably have a lot of annoying questions so please be kind..

1. Put this in the "N64" forum next time.

2. Take off your memory expansion so you don't rip it off by accident.

3. External batteries would work, but you will need a large pack for them.

Depends what system you mod. If you do an N64, you don't need anymore than 12V. (8 1.5V)

AAs won't power an n64 mobo by itself for a very long time. I'd go with a radio-control car battery for power. (get one at radioshack.)
