Video game club (school)

I have the chance to start a video game club at my school. however, before i commit, there are several things i need to know.

first of all, since this is going to be in the computer lab, is there an easy way to hook the composite video from consoles into the vga of computer monitors?

second, how does xbox 360 system link work? we are thinking of maybe having competitions, but i cant do it over live, as that requires net connection, and the school network blocks it.

third, i need a system that keeps people from taking my consoles, games, controllers and stuff. (other peoples too)

any other suggestions?

You would need adapters to use the monitors. System link just needs to be connected to a network, it doesn't need to get on live. If somehow that's also blocked or not possible then you could use a crossover cable or possibly use your own router.

could i use an ethernet hub for the system link?

You can use a router, hub, or switch. You can probably find an old one for free.


Buy some third-party VGA cables for the 360s (can be had on ebay for $10 each.) The quality is far better than converting from composite to VGA and much cheaper also.

well, thats good. i have a hub right here.

as for the cables, thats is cool for the 360's, but i plan on having snes, n64, psone, ps2, axbox, gamecube, dreamcast, and anything else i can get my hands on. i dont want to pay 80$ a piece for converters. is there something i can do?

our school doesnt have tv's. they opted for mounted projectors and smartboards.

and harshboy, no, emulation is a no can do. i cant use roms for a school club, as they are mostley illegal, plus, emulation is more like playing flash games online than videogames.

Not when you mod an original Xbox and play them with sexy looking emulators on the computer monitors just like you want.

Sometimes I prefer emulation over the real thing, crappy (School) hardware can make an old SNES game look nicer on a Computer Monitor than on some old SNES and a TV. My school's computers do N64 Emulation like a champ. Adding to the illegal point, about 50% of the kids in my school play Mario Kart 64 or Super Smash Bros. on PJ64 1.7 daily in class. Even the emulator is cracked

If you don't do the emulation/modding route, you're out of luck unless you want to buy a few converters.

Do the projectors have composite inputs? I know the ones at my high school did. That should get you at least one big screen to have something like a Mario Kart or Super Smash Bros tournament on, even more if there are any projectors that aren't ceiling mounted.

they do have composite inputs, but there is only one in the room, and, so far as i know, there arent any extras laying around.

@harshboy: I CANT USE EMULATION. i cant install anything on the computers, and i dont have any xboxes lying around. and i dont feel like buying any.

Got a laptop? You could bring that in to play emus on... if you really want emus.
Otherwise, it sounds like you're going to have to buy a lot of TVs.

Maybe you could find some sort of box you could lock (not a safe) like a big plastic container with holes drilled in the side and lid, and you could run a bike rope/chain through the holes. Then you could put the games in it when your done and take inventory. Sure someone could probably cut it open, but it's just a suggestion.

Also, I'm sure this is overpriced, I didn't see the price. Its an xbox 360 console lock. But you'd need a bike rack to chain it to

I was able to play AoE II LAN games at school, and it wasn't blocked. If it's the computers/consoles connected directly to each other, without requiring a net connection, it should work.

well, at this point, i have everything figured out but the screen issue. i am going to see whether or not there are extra projectors i could use. if there arent, i will either shell out some dough and buy a few converters, or shell out some dough, and buy some tv's. i have a few unmodded zenith screens, but they arent exactly good for multiplayer.
