Monitor not working

Hey guys. I found a monitor in the trash (I know, I know. Its in there for a reason.) and its a nice BenQ LCD monitor.

I plugged it into the wall, and yay it powers on. I see the green light come on. Yet, when it goes idle (yellow light), I can hear a faint high pitched noise coming from it. Now I plug it into my computer. My computer recognizes it, and the monitors light turns to green (meaning it has input.) I see no image on the screen

So, Error 1: Faint but annoying High pitched noise when on idle.
Error 2: No picture. Monitor does not display any picture at all. Not even "no input" image.

Check for bad capacitors on the power supply board. I have a 20" Dell 4:3 LCD I found in the trash that had a similar problem (except it made a "chirp... chirp..." noise). Replacing a couple blown caps fixed it.

Hopefully it's not anything major like the backlight inverter. If it is, either LED mod it or throw it away.

Try to make it so the image that should be appearing on the screen is mostly white with something like black text or designs on it. Then shine a flashlight into the screen from the front and you should be able to tell if there is an image on the screen (the light should go in through the white sections, and be blocked from coming back out by the black). Easy way to tell if its the backlight not working, as it isn't always easy to tell without a flashlight.

like bicostp said, the capacitors could be bad, for me i had to replace some in a 19" widescreen lcd by proview, they were swollen. Goto fixya.com and put in the model number of the monitor
