Making a Gamecube memory card reader for PC?

So, I haven't tried this yet, only because I don't have a Gamecube memory card slot to use, but since a Gamecube memory card is pretty much just an SD card would it be possible to take a USB card reader, and wire the card slot to it in place of SD? I know there are 3rd party memory cards that have a USB port on them, and I'm assuming that's all they are doing.

So if anyone has a spare GC memory card port and card reader, try it out. I'm curious if it would work.

In past I used homebrew to access my memory card from PC using a gamecube and the broadband adaptor, I connected from PC to the gamecube server and uploaded/downloaded the saves from my card.

btw, I heard the GC memcards uses the same interface SD cards use, you can prove this making your own SD gecko, wich is basically make an adaptor from SD to GC memcard, the only electronic you need is just extend a few wires from a SDcard plug to a memcard slot, no other electronics are required, btw, there is just 1 problem,the gamecube uses propietary Memcard access command, and not common ones like SD. people got SD working on gamecubes by creating some apps with the required protocol conversions, so I thinnk do it at the reverse way can also be posible, I mean, that it should be easier to get any cheap USB sd card reader and replace the SDCARD port with a GCmemcard Port, btw, special software will needed, and I dont know of any exsisting software yet.

btw, this can be really an interesting project,and very usefull,as you can see, the wii still have the GC memcard slots, but still neeed people with some coding skills and knowledge about how the GCmemcard and SDCARD protocols work.

Hmm, I've really wanted to be able to use a SD card as a memory card in my gamecube. It is incredibly difficult booting gcms off the slot b, and if I use slot a I can't save my games. Is that what you are talking about? Or just reading gamecube memory cards on a computer?

PS: If you need a gamecube SD adapter, why not buy one at deal extreme

about the slotB version of the homebrew, it should be similar than A slot, I used both, and I preffer to use the slotB version to keep A to save

I might try this out if I find a broken cube somewere cheap then. I already have a card reader that I took the SD slot from a while back. It would be pretty nice to be able to easily edit my GC saves.
