Any sugestions for a first portable?
i was thinking about using a Nintendo 64 for my first portable. Would that be to hard. if it is, can anyone give me a suggestion for a first. also a great website for cheap consoles and screens is half.com, don't worry about it being fake, because the site was made by ebay.

Re: Any sugestions for a first portable?
Nintendo 64s love to die for no apparent reason, but thankfully they're pretty cheap. (Though it's not fun spending hours relocating the cartridge slot, only to have the board fry, making you do all that work over again.)
The easiest portables to build are NOAC portables. (The little Chinese NES clones.) They sip power, their boards are small, they have games built in (most of the time), and they're usually very simple to work with. That would be the best starting point if you've never done anything with electronics before.
Whatever you choose, the cartridge-based systems will be easier to work with than disc-based systems, unless you relocate the cart slot.
