You need a revision earlier then 6 or 7, one with two 18mbit RDRAMs.
Now you have to get 36mbit rams, which come on later revision boards which only have one 36mbit, or 1st-party expansion paks. The 3rdparty/Madcatz expansion paks are only 18mbit chips.
A fun note is that each byte of the ram is actually 9 bits wide. It was designed to use the 9th as parity, but the 3d drawing microcodes utilize it for coverage information in the framebuffer (Determines whether or not the RDP anti-aliases the edges)

It means you will no longer need an expansion pak, but you will still need a jumper pak in there.
