OK here goes I've been on this site countless times and have learned tons about portables and every problem i've had has been solved by some though searching but this time no luck so i figured id ask. k so here goes...
i'm building a snes portable using a snes2 every thing has gone well so far im powering the system with a battery pack and running a 5v regulator like Ben says to do in his book every thing works fine but... the controller doesn't seem to function properly only the b button works and seems to do weird things depending on the game on super Mario all stars it just scrolls through the game options none of the other buttons work... so in desperation i un-soidered everything and resoidered the original controller hook up and hooked up a normal controller with the same results in stumped
if any one has any ideas let me know
thanks in advanced

Make sure none of the spots you soldered are touching. Are you using a controller that you are plugging into the SNES? There may be something wrong with the controller. If you are using built in controls, check your soldering one more time for unwanted connections.
Re: i need somehelp
ive tryed both controllers one soldered on to the board and then soldered the controller port back up pluged in a working controller i tested on my other snes same results...

Re: i need somehelp
if its happening on a different snes that you havent altered, then the controller itself must be messed up. I would suggest getting a new controller and using it on your portable.svtfoci wrote:ive tryed both controllers one soldered on to the board and then soldered the controller port back up pluged in a working controller i tested on my other snes same results...
Re: i need somehelp
sorry i worded that last post wrong i tested the controller on my normal snes and it worked fine then pluged it into my portable and it started acting weird so its not the controller... ive checked and rechecked all my soldering i haven't even modified the snes at all i did even relocate the cartridge slot i really want to figure this out

You can't have two controllers plugged in to one port at the same time. This includes an integrated controller and an external controller. Maybe this is it.
Hey, sup?
Re: i need somehelp
no that's not it' both controllers were connected at different times i really don't think this is a controller issue ive tested both with my regular snes the both work fine there has to be something up with the system what do the blue capacitors do maybe one or fried or some thing... this is a big head ache i think i just killed my 3'' Pustom screen while trying to get it to run on batteries... what a crappy week

That's electronics for ya!
If you're not sure what you're doing, don't do it. It's a female of the dog species getting started.
Make sure the traces are making good contact with the board (both sides) with a multimeter. Check for missing surface mount parts on the bottom of the board.
