Amazing Xbox Slim Mod

I definitely wasn't expecting to see this on Engadget this morning. A 1' XBox Mod!!

This thing looks amazing. I haven't read through the forum post showcasing it yet, but I have to say that by looking at the pictures, a lot of work went into this. The guts are so tightly packed that its hard to believe the thing doesn't just overheat and burn out. I thought you guys would be interested in hearing about this.

I'm amazed at how the Engadgeters are responding to it, they think it's no good because it's "just" and xbox.
Anyways, I saw this and all of a sudden the old dvd player case I was gonna try to stuff an xbox in looked huge at an inch and a half thick. . . but at least I have an idea on what to do for heatsinks now.

There's no internal drive, so I don't think it really should count. It's like "the worlds smallest NES controller" crap on g4tv. All that guy did was put the buttons in something, but had all the guts in an external case 4 times bigger than the "controller". Sorry to gripe, but that whole controller thing was a load of crap. G-force made a real controller that was tiny.

But that Xbox is a really really amazing and impressive mod. I'm amazed!

???? Its a hacked XBox, so it can run software from the Hard drive. If he installed a drive, it would be about 3 inches larger and thats if he could use a laptop optical drive. I think it counts.

I that's still pretty damn impressive. I would LOVE to have shrink my XBox down to 1.5 inches. Heck, I'd take a 3-inch thick one if it meant I could use an DVD drive (Saw a slim XBox of this type a while back, but can't seem to find it anymore online).

What I mean is, I don't like it when somebody mods something into something "smaller", when all they do is move a bunch of parts into something else that doesn't count as the console. That's what I meant about the "smallest" NES controller. The only thing in the "controller" were buttons, no main board or IC. Those were in something much larger, but it didn't count.

I think the cumulative size should be determined by everything needed to make it run. In this case, it is still teeny! Do the controllers plug in through the ports in the front with an adapter?

Yeah, the original XBox used controllers that had a proprietary plug on the front, but in actuality, it's just a weird USB connector. Using a breakaway and a normal USB cable, you can make a converter in about 5 minutes; otherwise, they do sell them online.

He got a smaller power supply and an adapter for it, it's not a pico though. You can see it in a few of the pictures, it's about an inch wide, 7 inches long and half an inch tall, and it's sitting on top of the mobo towards the front.

if you read the thread, he actually did say he's a bit uncomfortable with the temps it gets (around 70 C). . . but the heatsinks were signifigantly upgraded.
