Mineral Oil 360

Post by Zero_D »

So, my friend offered to give me his broken 360 for free. It currently has the RROD but I should be able to fix that. Its also missing half the case and the fans, so rather than taking the boring way out and buying a replacement case and new fans, would it be possible to put the 360 in one of those mineral oil pc cases that look like an aquarium? I'm assuming I'd need a pump to keep it cool, but any advice is appreciated.

If it's just a casemod, then it's doable with proper cooling.

Im glad you read the thread, dumbass.

But on topic, I don't see why not, I myself have not had experience with mineral oil PCs, but a PC mobo and 360MOBO are essentially the same.

All of the mineral oil tanks I've seen don't even need circulation. The oil transfers the heat well enough because the oil is just one large heatsink.

You'll also have to extend all the connections: video, power (although I think the PS could stay in the oil), Ethernet, and USB. You'll also have to relocate the power and sync buttons.

If you don't mind doing a bunch of soldering I'd love to see it.

Wow that's awesome. First time I've ever heard about computers in mineral oil.

I'd love to see a fish genetically altered to live in mineral oil :) (and clean up after itself)
