Can I put 14.8 volts into the Gamecube's power board?
Well, my laptop battery from a broken laptop is 14.8 volts, and I was wondering if that would hurt the gamecube. If it will, is there something that would bring it down to 12 volts?

I think on the 12v line of the gamecube you can put anything from 15 to 12v.

don't listen to me. lol, wait for someone really smart or read some stickies. Power is always talked about the beginning in each stickey usually. So, read the gamecube thread and you should fine the answer.
Also, you could always just get a 12v DC regulator from TI. I am looking for some, but they all cost like 28 bucks, but I know I can find one for way cheaper.

I read in Skyone's thread that the 12v line ran fine off of 5v but drew more milliamps. Don't know about higher voltages though.

kk, I think this is it. 4.5v to 17v input and a .8v to 15v max output.

NVM it says 14 pins so, I quess its a IC. But, it still does the job. (I think)

Yes, the gamecube powerboard has ran on 14.8 volts before. Look at both of kasar's portables, they run on 14.8 volt batteries.
Also, the gamecube will use less amps if you use higher volts, but the total watts will be the same. However, I wouldn't do anything above 15v because it hasn't been done before and you risk blowing your board.
So yes, it will work.

well, my first one had a 12v battery.
my second portable have a 18,8v battery, and when the charger is plugged there are arround 19.50v I has been using it for long time and no problems.
I think gamevelver's GCp uses 2x 14,8v batteries in parallel, but not sure
yep, it is safe use 14,8v, the GC regulator board is a solid board, and very usefull, you also can use it to power other systems like n64 or similars (I tested a n64 a few time ago and works perfect)
so go for it man, you can plug the 14,8v battery directly in the GC regulator board without problems, so you dont need waste your time and money into aditional regulators wen the GC regulator board is doing a good job ^^.
just remember to check the battery polarity at least twice before connect it to the system

Whoops, I was thinking that you always recommend 14.8 Volt batteries...

14.8 Volt batteries are the bomb though because since the gamecube uses switching regulators it runs on less amps then, say a 11.1 volt battery.
The gamecube powerboard is awesome. I used it one time to power my dreamcast.

yep, I still recomend the 14,8v, them are like 12v ones, but you have some extra Volts will help until the voltage drops down, this helped me cause my TV bright came weaker when the mattery was arround 1/3 charge, the 18,8v are also to big, thats why my left so much space left inside my GCP case, the batteries used it ^^
btw, I used 18v batteries cause I had some laptop battery packs over here with the prot board and charger.

I was unaware that it could run off of such high volts without blowing. After all, it was designed for 12 Volts.
SS's GCp only ran for around 2 hours on 11.1 Volt batteries that are 6400 Mah, so since yours are such higher voltage I assume yours would run for a much longer time.

well, sadly the difference may not be as good as desired
, mine is arround 2 hours and few mins too, but I think my screen have some to do in there, my crappy screen eat arround 1A, and SS usually use psone screens, and probably he led moded them, this basically means my system need more power, and I also have two rumbles, the BBA, and the qoob pro modchip, last time I tested my system with a multimeter, it needs arround 2,36 A

In other words your portable is horribly inefficient but still gets around the same battery life.
I'd say that's a plus! If you used your batteries with SS's setup then you would probably get a lot more battery life.
