Removing paint

I know this was in a topic a while ago, but I don't know what to search for to find it. It was a way to chemically remove all the paint from plastic pieces, and left the plastic clear. (Someone used it on their laptop, and gave a yellow mac effect)

1. What/Where is this chemica/post?
2. Other methods?
3. Will this work on a 360/360 controller? (Will it become clear, or just more white)

The plastic itself is colored, so no paint stripper will make it clear. (Actually, since it's plastic most paint stripper will make it a puddle. ) If you want a clear 360 controller you'll have to either mold one yourself or see if someone sells a clear replacement case for it (like they do for the PSP and DS).

The thing you're thinking of is the old iBook laptops. They were made out of clear plastic with paint on the inside to give them a nice shiny look. Most things are made with solid-colored plastic, so there's no way of making it clear, as bicostp said.

Should have figured. Well, do you guys have any idea where that post is? I know you had to add the chemical to water, put it on heat, and then dip the plastic in, but I forgot the name of the stuff.

That's a mixture of >10% hydrogen peroxide and Oxi-Clean, which makes things like yellowed Super Nintendos not yellow anymore.

I don't see what else he could be referring to. I really don't think there's a way to remove all the color from plastic. That's chemically impossible.

This is frustrating. haha. Someone took a laptop (I think it might have been a G4) used whatever this chemical was to remove all of the white paint from it, and repainted it yellow (from the inside). I'm pretty sure it was an active member too.

I think that was vskid or vbmaster who did the yellow laptop. That was just paint though.

Seriously, if the plastic is white, you can either paint on top of it, or leave it white.

Even the SNES's yellow colour was due to a coating on top of the plastic, not the plastic itself.

What about Vinyl Dye? How would that work out?

edit: not to make it clear, but to change the color. It would be much nicer than painting it right?

As he said. The ibook thing you are thinking of was just removing a thin layer of white paint on the inside of the plastic, then painting on the inside again. There is no way to take normal colored plastic and make it clear.
