First Genesis Project

So I'm going to attempt my first portable, but I don't really know what to do. What I have is a Genesis 1 with the case already ripped off, and for the screen, I have a craig portable dvd player w/ a 7 inch widescreen. Would that work? Also, what is the cheapest way possible to get a case? i want to spend as little money on this as possible. I can solder, and I don't really care too much about the asthetic pleasingness of the project, just as long as it works. I know genesis 2s/3s are smaller, but I just want to get my feet wet with the 1, so then I know what to do if I want to do another. Thanks.

well, you need to get a screen(I would reccomend a 5" ps1 screen), batteries, and a case from polycase. They sell awesome enclosure boxes that are perfect for these project. If you don't care about looks, you have way fewer cables to solder, to, because you won't need to relocate the cart slot (bad joke alert) then you just need to wire up the composite out on the genesis to composite in on the screen, hook up the power, and presto!(and I think you need to wire ground together on them too)

If you actually read his post then you would know that he already has a screen.
However, I did notice you said it was a widescreen. You will get some pretty stretched images with a widescreen on a retro console.

mabe he can change the ratio of the screen. For a cheap case reuse the segas case(Looks like you screwed up...) or plastiv containers.(cheap scats use card board).

Maybe, he could change the ratio of the screen. For a cheap case, you can reuse the Sega Genesis case, or plastic containers. (Cheap skates use cardboard.)

If the screen can be set for fullscreen (black bars on the left and right sides), he could just cut the screen hole in such a way to cover the little bit of screen that will be black on each edge...

A bit inelegant, perhaps, but at least there would be no . s t r e t c h i n g .
