Ntsc games on a pal snes?

Post by Oniak »

I can get a pal snes for pretty dirt cheap. Is there a way to play ntsc on a pal system? Or even use a pal system on an ntsc t.v? Need a response quick, thanks!

If you use composite it will run on you tv. Mod the plastic to fit the cart. but becuse its pal it wil run slow i sugest a overclock to bring it up to speed.YOU MAY NEED TO DISABLE THE LOCK OUT CHIP.

shut up, banditpaw. You have no idea what you are talking about. I for one have a PAL snes, and can verify that it will not work on an NTSC crt television. It will also not work on many lcd screens. The screen has to accept 50hrz and 60 hrz to use both PAL and NTSC signals. I was lucky enough to find a dvd player that accepted both signals. However, banditpaw, because of your false imformation, I believe Oniak has bought a PAL snes. So unless you have a TV that accepts both signal,s Oniak, you are screwed.

And no, widening the cart slot will not allow you to play NTSC games. you need to disable the lockout chip, or even better, do the 50/60hrz snes mod.

I'm going to do the 50/60hz mod and are you serious? There has got to be a way for it to work on me tv. And I new I shouldn't have listened to some noob to the forums. And yes. I did buy it.

Well, you may have a chance with getting it to work on your TV. If your Tv has a manuel still, look through the specs and see if it supports 50/60hrz. If worse comes to worse, you might have to buy a cheap lcd that accepts both signals. Oh, and if you do he 50/60hrz snes mod, you will get a stable picture on an ntsc tv, but it will be in black and white.

Well I played a pal ps2 game before and until I set it to the ntsc setting(I believe it changed the hz setting from 50 to 60) the screen was scrolling downward but I could see the image in color. So wouldn't that mean the snes would work(in color) as long as I modded it with the 50/60hz switch?

...? Why are you so quick to put him down? You're the one who apparently didn't have the time to search around.

So quick to put him down? i'm not being so quick. Take some time to look over modretro and you will see why I am sick of bandit misimforming people.

EDIT: on a NTSC tv the image scrolls just as you said it does on the ps2, yet when you get a stable image it is only black and white.

I'm sure I'll get around it somehow. And I love the look of the UK/Jap version which I why I wanted it.
