Any way to copy texts from cell phone to PC?

Do you have a technical question that doesn't really fit a specific console? Want some general info on electronics, hacking, making cookies, etc? Here's the place to ask! Go nuts.

Any way to copy texts from cell phone to PC?

Post by HotDog-Cart »

Hey guys. Long story short.

My moms ex-friend has been harrassing her lately, and has been threatning her and such.
And now my moms currently in a court case about the matter.

My mom wants to know if theres anyway to copy texts messages from her phone onto her PC.

(Ofcourse, she could just retype them out but the problem is the court would not accept that as evidence due to the fact it could easily be forged.)

Her phone is a Nokia 2680 and the provider is Rogers Canada.

Edit: Isnt there a way she could request a text message transcript from the provider?

Requesting a copy from the provider would be her best bet, if they log messages. As far as I know, there's no way to copy messages off the phone onto a computer in such a way that you can prove they're not forged.

If you're going to court...you might as well go all out and just request copies from your provider. Some phones have the ability to back texts up to the computer, but they're usually encrypted/packed for portability. Even if you managed to get them all, those might as well be called forged too.

I would even make sure some one at your cell's provider signs a paper that states that the text messages are legitimate (if they already don't do something like that), just to be prepared.

well both guys gave excelent responces. You can call rogers and give them prove of whom you are, tell them your case and they will be glad to send you a copy of the txt msg you received and sent. I think the court is going to accept that.

This is a dumb question.... Why dont you just show the phone with the txt msg you received. then I dont think they will complain about that....

I'm going by what the court told us to do. I believe they don't allow cell phones in court, not even for evidence purposes. So, we had to get a copy of it all from rogers. I think rogers killed a couple of trees for the amount of paper we had.

If you ask. They have the right to look at what you do. But honestly, they probably don't check them unless asked to do so. (Think, that'd be A LOT of messages to check)

How would the court honestly know that you didn't just copy them over yourself if you brought them on a computer or disk or something? I'm not suggesting anything here seriously don't take this wrong please

Usually, when you request records like that for a court case they mail you a hard copy.

We had a staff member from the telephone company sign their name in an area assuring that the pages are the original copies of the text messages.

Lawyer said it'd be fine.
