ok i chose all of these for the BEST compatibility in OSX86. i HIGHLY suggest you stick with them. as for the Mac Pro case. Good luck finding one for any reasonable amount of money first of all, and second of all good luck getting all that stuff to even fit in it as it will REQUIRE heavy modification. Apple does not use standardized computer industry hardware, so nothing you can buy will fit without extreme modification. i strongly recommend you stick with a standard PC case.

Note: I haven't tried OSX86, so I don't know if there are some chipsets it likes and some it doesn't.

Motherboard: Good choice, but you might want to go with one based on the P45 chipset so you get PCIe 2.0, which has more memory bandwidth. 4 RAM slots instead of 2 could help too, if you ever want to go with more than 4 gigs of RAM.

GPU: Eeeh... GTS 250? It's well behind even the old 190-something core GTX 260. (In fact it's probably just a rebranded 9800 GTX.) After the MIR, EVGA's GTX 260 Core 216 video card is only $50 more than that GTS 250, and you'll get much more out of it. If you're not gaming on it (dual boot or, believe it or not, native OS X games exist), the 250 is fine.

CPU: Good choice. Intel's Wolfdale/Yorkfield processors have relatively low heat outputs and overclock well. However, if you do want to overclock, it's strongly recomended that you get an aftermarket CPU cooler. Intel's stock cooler is very small, and completely aluminum.

PSU: Yes! You didn't cheap out on the most important component! That's the same one I bought. Its cables are long, but not modular, so unless you need them all you'll want somewhere to get them out of the way. (I left the top 5.25" bay on my case empty, put the DVD drive in the second one, and shoved all the wires there. ) They're all sleeved, so they won't get tangled.

Are you just going to run OSX86, or will you dual boot with Win7?

bic, i set that up for him. i chose what i did for best compatibility in osx86. for the average joe, pcie 2.0 isnt necessary. that board has almost 100% osx86 compatibility right from the getgo. that video card is too easy to get working in osx. with that setup, its going to give him the best possible chance of getting a seamless osx86 box up and running as quickly and as easily as possible.

I'm gonna try to install Leopard using the PATA drives then install the SATA kexts. When it reboots I'll just disconnect the DVD Drives for the time being.

Oh, and you could add a decent amount more power to that computer for $100. Updated Graphics Card and a better Motherboard.

Alright. Today I will look further into the software stuff to see what it'll take to install osx86 on this thing. I read the reviews on the GPU and most say it'll run most games pretty good. As for Ram, I don't think I'll ever want more than 4 GB, that is high end to me, as right now I'm running 512 MB...

If it's going to be too much work software side I may just end up going with good ol' XP on this thing.
